Bringing the world's best hackers together for a unique annual event since 2008.
We originally conceived HackFu as an internal training event but have now dramatically expanded its scope to welcome a wide variety of experts from across the industry, all dedicated to closing the cyber security skills gap.
HackFu now provides a cyber security event filled with challenges that explore hacking, scripting, tinkering, lock-picking, crypto, and generally thinking outside the box.
It is hosted in a secret, yet highly-theatrical environment that throws security professionals and enthusiasts together in an immersive scenario, featuring a real time storyline that plays out over the course of two days.
Every year we select a diverse bunch of individuals from all over the world, ranging from university graduates to seasoned InfoSec professionals.
We then split them into teams with a mix of skills and experience. Each team includes MWR employees from our offices across the globe, members of the company’s intern schemes as well as other InfoSec professionals from the UK and abroad.
"The aim of HackFu is to test and improve current cyber security and teamworking skills, allow exploration into technical areas outside an individual’s comfort zone and inspire participant teams to come up with creative solutions to difficult problems. Over the long term, this aims to cultivate individuals with the right attitude and technical approach to solve the complex issues that face the cyber security industry."
HackFu: an extraordinary event for a demanding world
Our industry needs the type of challenges offered by HackFu to develop the skillsets required by the modern security professional, based on three essential strengths:
- Experience and knowledge drawn from the widest possible pool of influences.
- Ability to use creativity and problem-solving skills rather than just learned knowledge and techniques.
- A genuine passion for the peculiar challenges involved in our work.
This is why we make HackFu fun and engaging and throw it open to all with the knowledge and abilities to compete.
HackFu only happens once a year but its global reach and ability to create deeper understanding of cyber security issues has effects that ripple out across our industry.
